Icon of the Evangelist St. Luke (Apostle Luke)

The icon of the Evangelist St. Luke (Apostle Luke) is exhibited in the monastery dedicated to Panagia (Virgin Mary). To the left of the iconostasis is a shell made of tortoise shell and mother-of-pearl, in which there is an icon covered with golden silver.

The Cypriot hermit Isaiah is said to have miraculously healed the daughter of Alexios I Komnenos (1081-1118 AD). In return, the emperor offered him an icon, and although he was saddened by the prospect of losing the relic, the ruler sent it to Cyprus, along with funds to build a monastery to store it. Unfortunately, nothing remained of the original building after several fires that destroyed the monastery.

Currently, the monastery receives tourists from all over the world, dipping them in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. Visitors can touch a piece of heaven, located in the mountains of the island of saints, the haven of Orthodoxy. In Kykos, on the territory of which the museum is located, it is famous for being a monastery where the first president of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios III, was a novice.
