Omodos is a traditional Cypriot village located in the Troodos mountains. Currently, it is a tourist village that has retained its ancient beauty and flavor, since ancient times famous for winemaking and orchards, narrow streets, picturesque views, taverns, as well as ancient stone buildings with carved wooden balconies, a special place among which is occupied by the Monastery of the Holy Cross, where several important relics, including a piece of the Life-Giving Cross and the Holy Hemp Rope used by the Romans to tie Christ to the Cross.

The Tombs of the Kings, located just outside the city of Paphos on the southwestern coast of Cyprus, is a remarkable archaeological site that offers a fascinating glimpse into the island's ancient history. Despite its name, this necropolis was not actually the burial place of kings, but rather high-ranking officials and wealthy citizens during the Hellenistic and Roman periods, between the 3rd century BC and the 3rd century AD. The site spans a vast area and features an extensive collection of rock-cut tombs. These tombs are impressive for their grand scale and the architectural style inspired by the ancient Egyptians, featuring frescoed walls and Doric columns. The name "Tombs of the Kings" derives from the magnificence and size of the tombs, which are considered fit for royalty. This misnomer has persisted due to the splendor and historical importance of the site. What makes the Tombs of the Kings particularly fascinating is the unique construction of the tombs, which were carved directly into the solid rock. Many of these underground tombs have open courtyards surrounded by columns, which provided natural light and ventilation. This design is not only aesthetically pleasing but also serves as a testament to the advanced engineering skills of the period. The tombs have yielded a wealth of artifacts, including pottery, jewelry, and sculptures, providing invaluable insights into the funerary practices and daily life of ancient Cypriots. The layout and decoration of the tombs reflect the wealth and status of the individuals buried there, showcasing the blend of local and Hellenistic influences in Cypriot culture. Today, the Tombs of the Kings is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major tourist attraction in Cyprus. Visitors can explore the site at their own pace, wandering through the underground chambers and open courtyards, imagining the rituals and ceremonies that once took place here. The site is not only an archaeological treasure but also offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, making it a picturesque and educational destination for history enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.

In the clear waters off Ayia Napa, Cyprus lies the Museum of Underwater Sculptures Ayia Napa (MUSAN), a submerged art gallery of nearly 100 sculptures. Visitors snorkel through this unique space, conceived by artist and environmentalist Jason deCaires Taylor, who aimed to boost local biodiversity. Made from marine stainless steel and pH-neutral concrete, the 93 sculptures, situated 8-10 meters deep, act as artificial reefs, attracting diverse marine life. The pristine waters make it a haven for snorkelers and divers. Beyond art, MUSAN rejuvenates the seafloor. With only 10-15% of the ocean bed suitable for natural reefs, artificial alternatives like MUSAN play a crucial role in marine conservation. These reefs, tailored to their locations, provide a sanctuary for marine species and divert attention from untouched ecosystems, allowing them to recover. The sculptures evolve as marine creatures inhabit them, reflecting MUSAN's mission. Taylor stresses their dual purpose: fostering marine habitats and conveying societal messages, with themes emphasizing the power of information to drive change. Located near Pernera beach within the Ayia Napa Artificial Reef Marine Protected Area (MPA), the museum is lauded by Giorgos Bayadas of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research for advancing marine awareness and serving as a beacon for environmental change.

On the remote western coast of Cyprus, Lara Beach is one of the island’s best-kept natural treasures, known for its wild scenery and its role as a protected nesting site for sea turtles. From May to August, endangered Green and Loggerhead turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs in the golden sands. If you visit between late July and early October, you might witness the magical moment when tiny hatchlings emerge from their nests and make their first journey toward the sea. There is also a small covered conservation station right on the beach, where some of the hatchlings are kept safely in special aquariums for a short period, giving them a better chance to grow before being released into the wild. This allows visitors to observe these little creatures up close before they are set free. Lara Beach offers a rare chance to experience nature’s wonders and perhaps even participate in one of the turtle releases—an unforgettable moment that stays with you for life.
