The village of Pelendri, located in the Troodos Mountains, is home to the beautiful Church of Timios Stavros, or the Holy Cross. Dating back to the medieval period, the church is known for its remarkable frescoes and traditional Cypriot architecture. Despite its historical importance, it remains one of the lesser-known religious treasures of the island.

The interior is decorated with vivid wall paintings created between the 12th and 15th centuries. These frescoes depict scenes from the life of Christ and various saints, providing valuable insight into the artistic traditions of Byzantine Cyprus. Their preservation has earned the church recognition as part of the UNESCO-listed Painted Churches of the Troodos Region.

Visitors who venture into the mountain villages often discover that places like Timios Stavros offer a more authentic experience than many of the island’s larger religious sites. The combination of history, art, and peaceful surroundings makes this church a memorable destination.
