Hidden in the picturesque village of Kalopanayiotis, the Church of Agios Ioannis Lampadistis is one of Cyprus’s most remarkable religious monuments. Unlike many famous monasteries that attract large numbers of visitors, this historic church offers a quieter and more intimate experience. Its unique architecture and beautifully preserved frescoes have earned it a place among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Cyprus.

The church is dedicated to Saint John Lampadistis, a local saint who lived during the Byzantine period. Over the centuries, additional chapels and structures were added to the complex, creating a fascinating blend of architectural styles. Inside, visitors can admire rare wall paintings that illustrate the development of Orthodox art from different historical periods.

Today, Agios Ioannis Lampadistis remains an important symbol of Cyprus’s spiritual and cultural heritage. Surrounded by the lush landscapes of the Troodos Mountains, it offers visitors an opportunity to discover a lesser-known side of Orthodox Cyprus while enjoying one of the island’s most beautiful mountain regions.
